Our home county · workshop in Uckfield
Bespoke joinery across
East Sussex.
East Sussex is our home county and the ground our workshop sits on. From the High Weald villages around Uckfield down to the Georgian streets of Lewes and the exposed coast at Eastbourne and Hastings, it is a county thick with period, listed and conservation-area property, the kind of building that off-the-shelf windows and doors never quite suit. We make joinery to fit it, by hand, in Uckfield.
Much of East Sussex is old. The Wealden interior is timber-framed, weatherboarded and tile-hung; the towns carry Georgian and Victorian frontages, a great deal of it inside conservation areas or individually listed. That work needs like-for-like reproduction to the original profile, and often listed-building consent. We restore original box-sash windows where the timber can be saved, splice and repair rather than rip out, and reproduce in Accoya or hardwood where a window has gone past saving, so a single replacement reads as original because it is built the way the original was.
The county also throws its own conditions at timber. Houses on the Downs and along the coast at Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings take salt air and driving weather that punishes cheap joinery, so we build in stable, durable timber and finish it to last. Inland, the farms and barn conversions of the Weald want oak, and we make doors, windows and structural joinery to suit them.
Not all of it is period work. Across East Sussex we fit the everyday bespoke commissions too: fitted wardrobes and dressing rooms, oak staircases, media walls, window seats for deep old reveals, garden rooms and one-off pieces drawn for the room and built to the millimetre. We measure up, build in our workshop, and fit it ourselves rather than handing it to a contractor.
We cover the county from the workshop in Uckfield, most of it within an hour's drive. If you have a project anywhere in East Sussex, from a single restored sash to a full set of windows or a fitted staircase, tell us what you need and we will come and take a look.
